Covid Daily

Need to Know:

The City of Frisco has moved its Municipal elections to November 3rd. Governor Abbott has expended his mandatory self-quarantine to include more states and some on-road travel. The “New Normal” is coming into view as President Trump’s Executive Orders are extended to the end of April.

Deeper Dive:

The City of Frisco has moved the municipal elections to the November General Election Ballot. This is in response to public health concerns stemming from the COVID-19 Pandemic. On Friday the  Frisco City Council held a Special Called Meeting to move the May 2 General Election to November 3, 2020. This election is to elect three council members (Mayor, plus Places 5 and 6). Candidate filings will remain valid and will not be reopened for the November election. Earlier this month, Governor Greg Abbott suspended provisions of the Texas Election Code allowing cities to move their elections. The postponement means the new, voter registration deadline will October 5. Early voting will start on October 19 and run through October 30.

In a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Governor Greg Abbott expanded his previous travel-related Executive Order to further combat the spread of COVID-19 in Texas. In the Executive Order, GA-12, the Governor mandated a 14-day quarantine for road travelers arriving in Texas from any location in Louisiana. The self-quarantine procedure will mirror the process outlined in his previous Executive Order, GA-11. This mandated quarantine will not apply to travel related to commercial activity, military service, emergency response, health response, or critical infrastructure functions.

Lastly, President Trump announced Sunday that all Americans must continue to practice social distancing until April 30.  Health officials warned that without extending this timeline, the US would not “flatten the curve.” This “new normal” will be around for at least the next month.
