Metro Relief is a strategic mobile outreach organization relentlessly pursuing solutions for those experiencing homelessness. On any given night, over half a million people in America experience homelessness. We are committed to reducing this number through a mobile-first approach that ensures that our homeless friends receive the resources they need and deserve. We focus on long-term solutions, addressing the root causes of homelessness and promoting sustainable change within individuals.
In 2011, Austin Bonds founded Metro Relief in DFW after years of serving the homeless in New York City. His vision to be a mobile-first ministry remains at the core of everything we do. Homelessness is a bit like an iceberg: for every person that you see under an overpass or on the sidewalk, there are countless others who have made themselves hidden in wooded areas, vacant buildings, and other “hard to find” places. Our street outreach teams go into these hidden places to build essential relationships and offer a myriad of solutions. Street outreach is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor that ensures we connect with people who might never seek help on their own. We believe every person matters, and we will always search for those who need assistance. While getting someone off the streets rarely happens overnight, our case managers often spend months -sometimes years- walking alongside our homeless friends to help them find stable housing. They are relentless.
Our street outreach team seek out people who may be sleeping rough or panhandling. The team is easily recognizable in their Metro Relief shirts and vehicles. As they consistently meet our homeless friends where they are, the team builds trust and connection. We focus our attention on three primary outreach areas, providing the mechanism by which we are able to help those suffering homelessness toward a sustainable recovery. 1. Every Fri and Sat, our staff and volunteers take our buses to homeless hotspots to provide food, hygiene kits, and clothing to our friends. This creates open doors for our case managers to begin one-on-one care to help get people off the street and into housing. 2. Our case managers partner with local law enforcement and municipalities, quickly finding people living on the streets, replacing critical documents, and connecting them with vital resources to prevent long-term homelessness. 3. Our case managers also regularly visit with existing clients, driving them to doctor and DMV appointments, advocating for them with HUD and Housing Forward, and fighting relentlessly to access any available option to get our friends off the street, into stable housing and healthy living.
