Our purpose is twofold:
1) Be charitable. We encourage women to make a tangible difference in their broader communities; and
2) Educate and connect women to local DFW nonprofits in order to promote and raise awareness to successful community efforts and provide opportunities for collaboration.
200 Muslim Women Who Care® is committed to creating and nurturing powerful bonds that will serve to strengthen DFW. We believe that no challenge is too complex to overcome when we collectively take small steps to enrich our communities.
We are a nonprofit giving circle formed in Dallas a year ago. We have 200+ service-minded women as members. Many of our members are from Frisco. Our members nominate local charities every quarter that are vetted to make sure they are financially sound and practice nonprofit best practices. Five local nonprofits then go through pitch practices with our Board to help set them up for success for when they come present their programs to our Members. The Members listen to the pitch and ask questions then the membership collectively selects nonprofits to receive $20,000 in grants every quarter. All the nonprofits presenting are local and must spend the grant money locally and share how the money was used.
We fulfill our mission and vision by meeting four times a year, learning about our local non-profits.
Members pledge to make a donation of $100 at each quarterly meeting to be contributed to a selected charity. Total annual member contribution is $400.
Prior to each meeting there is a submission period in which members can nominate a local 501(c)(3) registered charity to be considered for the donation. Nominations must include answering the “Getting to Know a Non-Profit Questionnaire”.
After screening to ensure they meet the requirements of a reputable charity and ethical standards, three of the nominated charities are randomly selected to present and answer questions at the meeting.
Once the 5 nominated charities have presented, and questions have been answered, members vote and the charity with the most votes receives a donation. When we join together and each give a little, we make a big impact!
