Frisco Chamber Launches Receipt Race

Frisco Chamber Foundation Launches "Receipt Race" to Support Frisco Rail District Businesses Amid Construction

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Frisco, TX – September 12, 2024

The Frisco Chamber of Commerce, through its charitable arm, the Frisco Chamber Foundation, is excited to unveil the Frisco Rail District Receipt Race—an initiative aimed at boosting foot traffic and supporting businesses in the Frisco Rail District during ongoing construction. This announcement follows the debut of the newly launched Frisco Rail District’s brand identity, a collaborative project that began in April, led by Visit Frisco.

With the revitalization of the Rail District underway, these reinvestment projects will breathe new life into historic downtown Frisco. In 2023, the City of Frisco completed work on Elm Street, and in July 2024, construction kicked off on Main Street to remove on-street parking and widen sidewalks, making the area more pedestrian-friendly. The reinvestment project also includes the 4th Street Plaza, a 1.96-acre plaza that will serve as a connection between Elm and Main Street and provide a community gathering place. The construction of a parking garage on the west side of 4th Street is slated to begin in early 2025. These reinvestment projects are expected to be completed ahead of the World Cup in 2026.

“The vision and renderings for the completed project are extraordinary, but during the path to completion, it’s important we continue to visit our small businesses in the Rail District,” shared Christal Howard, President/CEO of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. “That’s where the Frisco Rail District Receipt Race comes in.”

The Receipt Race is a fun competition open to PTAs with 501(c)(3) status. Beginning today through December 31, 2024, participants shop, dine, or do business at any Rail District establishment, save their receipts, and submit them to their selected PTA. The PTA with the highest number of collected, counted and turned-in receipts will earn a $5,000 prize for their school, while second place wins $3,000, and three runner-up PTAs will each receive $1,000.

“The enthusiasm from our local PTAs has been incredible, and together, we’re confident this initiative will make a meaningful difference for businesses in the Rail District,” said Howard.

The timing couldn’t be better, Howard explained, “We are launching the Receipt Race alongside the new Frisco Rail District brand launch to maintain the momentum and excitement surrounding downtown. We want both residents and visitors to see what’s happening now and be part of building excitement for the vibrant future ahead.”

The Frisco Chamber is working closely with local PTAs and Rail District businesses to ensure this initiative brings the community together. Collaborative efforts are not new to Frisco. In addition to the city’s investment in infrastructure and the new Rail District brand identity led by Visit Frisco, the Frisco Economic Development Corporation has also piloted a grant program for qualifying Rail District businesses and hired a liaison to serve the Rail District businesses.  “Frisco is built on strong partnerships, and in true Frisco spirit, we’re certain our community will rally to uplift these businesses,” Howard added.
