Wellness Center for Older Adults

Mission Statement

We empower older adults and caregivers to live with dignity, independence, and well-being.

About Us

Since 1979, the Wellness Center (WCOA) strives to ensure older adults and their caregivers achieve high levels of physical, social, and mental well-being. Promoting aging in place through independence and healthy living is at the core of our services. Our programming encompasses health, mental health, and supportive social services across Collin County.

HEALTH SERVICES include preventative healthcare such as ear cleanings to help with hearing aids, hand and foot care, low-cost lab services, and blood sugar and blood pressure checks. We also provide 1:1 health-related education in addition to professionally led group discussions centered on senior healthcare. WCOA maintains a lending closet for durable medical equipment for community members.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES focuses on the caregivers for older adults to encourage positive environments, proper care, and to help with the stressors of life’s transitions associated with caring for older adults and loved ones. These services are provided via individual counseling, caregiver support groups, community education and training opportunities, and finally our Memory Cafe that allows for cognitive building through games and activities while also modeling for caregivers.

SOCIAL SUPPORTIVE SERVICES ensure our unhoused older adults are properly connected to housing assistance and other critical needs resourcing through our Neighbors Helping Neighbors collaborative. Older adults are the fastest growing population among the unhoused, and our trained case managers work within our Continuum of Care standards to help unhoused neighbors remain connected while working through the housing process. Our social supportive services also provide short-term, non-medical assistance to those aging adults who are housed through our Project Independence. Volunteers assist with transportation, socialization, small errands, and light housekeeping. Through both programs information and referrals is key to ensure our older adults are equipped with resources beyond WCOA.
